I have been listening to WYWH recently and was wondering what Welcome to the Machine is all about and how it really fits in with the rest of the Album. It doesnt really seem to me like it fits in with the theme of the album ie - shine on and WYWH being about Syd leaving the band etc..
Does anyone know what the song is really about?

i think it's about the record industy. the machine chewing you up and spitting you out when you're all juiced  'why the way which ones pink?' all they want is money, they have no idea what the band is about etc. Wish You Were Here isn't all about Syd. It's also about what was going on with the band at the time. and after dsotm that's how they were probably often treated. |

Yes he's right. It's pretty much about the record industry. But it can really apply to just about anything. Whether it be a company, or just America altogether. It's a "machine", and you have no freewill basically, and everything you do is monitored.

Ok i'm in an anolytical mood (I don't know if thats a word but 'tis now). Here are what I think the lyrics and there meanings are, now you've done it, you've made me think!
You've meen in the pipeline, filling in time,
provided with toys and Scouting for boys,
Perhaps talking about the band members with their instruments (toys) looking for other like minded musicians.
You brought a guitar to punish your ma,
Talking about David?
You didn't like school,
Roger and how he didn't like school
and you know you're nobody's fool,
Saying although he didn't like school he was not stupid
I can't be bothered to do the rest and this is just my stupid view but hey.
(By the way I don't think we should look at floyd lyrics this deeply as it sort of ruins the song thinking so hard about them when you could just listen and enjoy, perhaps it was just a random song)
P.s
random should be spelt like this randomn because it looks better.
