Everyone goes to school. The ones who get a full education are considered more fortunate than the ones who don't. But how much of school is learning, as much as being taught to conform? There is a lot of useful stuff learned in school, don't get me wrong. But a good lot of it is shit that just teaches us to eat what the man feeds us, and he'll tell us how it tastes. What are your thoughts on this?

Some aspects of school are important, such as learning rules & boundries to a certain extent, learning to be in an environment with others etc. You need to learn those basic skills for when you join the workforce. But as for education, whether you drop out or go on to uni, I think people put to much pressure onto it and it's not that important unless you want to become a doctor or lawyer. My hubbie and I both dropped out early, and now we both hold steady jobs and pull a good income between us. Basically, I would rather have a little less money and a less stressful career, rather than be a top executive with a huge pay and having to deal with all the stress.
And if I can climb a bit higher on my soap box, I would like to say that Women's liberation was the worst thing that ever happened to us. Now women are forced to go out and work as well as look after the home & cooking & children. We cant do it, and women's liberation is coming back now and biting us in the butt. That is why there are so many fat people - we dont have time to cook nutritious meals for the family. That is why kids are running wild - because they dont have parents anymore. Thats my opinion anyway.

good point selina. I agree with what you say about stress, my supervisor probably makes maybe double my pay, but he has to do all the things i do, plus deal with all the other crap that he's responsible for.

yep, there is way too much emphisis put on education & careers. My dream is to one day escape it all and move far away to some hill-billy town and graze some farm animals and live off the land. Couldnt think of anything better!

Anyway, about 60% of what is in school is useless, a bunch of filler crap like reports, projects, and such. I went to summer school last summer and I loved it. I learned more in one day of summer school than I did all year in regular school. Summer school is more effective, they teach you the lessons faster, the basics, with no filler, BAM BAM BAM there it is! If everything were like summer school we could start educating our kids at 13 or 14 and have it all done with in a couple years. Oh, wouldn't it be great. . .

You see, i've just entered the university after graduating from school. One of our lectors told us that we have been being brainwashed at school all the time. For example, we have been told all the time that the Middle Ages were dark and dirty and that today we live in a free and fastly developing world. Nay, that's not true. The dark ages are now, because of conformism. I simply don't know whether to believe him or not. Surely there is too much conformism in our world. And the main producer of conformists is school. There is no philosophy as a subject in school, where I live. Somebody has an advantage of hiding the truth. I was thinking that we are not told the truth in school all the time I was learning there. And only in university somebody confirmed my suspicions.
Why somebody wants to hide something? Was George Orwell's prophecy right?

we learn RS (religious studies) thats fun, you sort of learn a little about philosiphy, but it's fun arguing (not in a bad way) with the teacher, or is a better word discuss? Anyway, I hate school, except music.
